Andy Warhol was an American pop artist obsessed with celebrity and consumer culture who created some of the 20th century’s most iconic images. The image of the Chanel Nº 5 perfume bottle created by Warhol in 1980 as part of his ADS series is one of the most recognized examples of Pop Art.

In 1997, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Chanel Nº 5 perfume, Chanel asked the Warhol Foundation's permission to use that iconic artwork as part of an advertising campaign. What was first conceived as an advertising campaign quickly expanded to in-store displays, posters and new limited-edition packages. And for the first time in its history, the sophisticated black-and-white design of the Chanel Nº 5 bottle was changed.
